Final project

For the final project of Multimedia Journalism, I want to do something that I enjoy most, photography :) The first theme would be about "Native-American heritage celebration." Story about culture usually attracts people. This Saturday (May 14) there will be a festival named Hibulb Powwow held by 1st Nation group at EvCC gym. It is an event to celebrate and honor American Indian culture. Then, next Tuesday, with my CCID group we'll go to Tulalip Indian  reservation. So I think that would be interesting to have a slide show that contains pictures from two different events but have the same topic. I can collect the information for my captions from the 1st Nation advisor, Paula Three Star, and maybe the Tulalip reservation spokesperson.

The second story idea for the final project is the ESL Talk Time program. I wrote this story for The Clipper few weeks ago, and I mentioned it when I review the audio story from American Life. I want to do this story because it would be interesting to show the situation of ESL class where the non-English speaker learn to improve their speaking skill. My plan is, I will show it by audio story, hopefully I can get the natural sound like people chattering in different accent, people playing games, watching movies, or maybe eating together. I will also interview Dick Simms, the senior volunteer at Talk Time, and one student that come regularly to this program.

The Mouse People

A picture is worth a thousand words; a slide show is both. - Author Unknown.

I watched the slide show titled The 'Mouse People' of Beijing on New York Times website. The slide captures the life of laborers, waiters and salesclerks in China’s capital city. The workers live in a tiny room - sometimes they shared with roommate - with makeshift facilities.

I never heard about the term "mouse people" before. I couldn't find the meaning of it, but in my perspective, it refers to the lower-class strivers. China has become a new giant in the world economy, through this slide show people can see the other side of the progress of the country.

For all pictures in this slide show, I think it still need captions; it explains the pictures more deeper. The captions build the mood of the whole slide show with the word choices.
